British Values

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

The children enjoyed celebrating the Queens Platinum Jubilee with a street party style lunch and a day filled with activities. We now have a lovely display of the children's work in our school library. It was a fun day enjoyed by all!

Remembrance Day: Our Forces Group went to the memorial to pay their respects

Thank you for all your support for this worthy cause

At Great Hockham Primary and Nursery School we promote British Values through our ethos, through our curriculum, through circle time in EYFS, through RE lessons, through regular assemblies and through our Wellbeing Curriculum.

Everyone has a voice, and everyone's voice matters!

Pupils are encouraged to be respectful  of people from all faiths, cultures and races,  celebrating difference in people's points of views as well as celebrating our own uniqueness.

The Key Values are;

Democracy:

We work together to listen to and respect each other's views and ideas. Decisions are made fairly, and if we cannot come to a unanimous decision we vote to ensure the decision is fair. Each week all of the pupils take part in a weekly forum where we work patiently and collectively to discuss key issues, rules and values.

The Rule of Law

Pupils are taught from an early age the rules of the school and the values and reasons behind the rules. All pupils know we need to be SAFE, READY and RESPECTFUL.

At the beginning of each school year the children and teachers agree their classroom rules together and these are reinforced regularly through praise for positive choices.

Liberty:

Our safe and supportive environment encourages the children to make informed decisions and the right choices. Safeguarding and E Safety is paramount to also ensuring our pupils make safe choices. Becoming critical and reflective thinkers allows the children to feel confident about make good decisions.

Mutual Respect and Tolerance:

Our vision is for all of our pupils to be Creative, Caring and Daring. High levels of mutual trust are demonstrated through the strong relationships between the children and the staff. Positive attitudes and caring behaviours are recognised and celebrated.

We want out children to become tolerant citizens of the future, who can live and work harmoniously with others in our diverse society. We want them to understand that equality does not mean treating people equally, equality means treating people fairly.
